Recap: Acumatica Hackathon 2025

With Acumatica Summit 2025 in our rearview mirror, we’re excited—but not surprised—at it being another exceptional, record-breaking event. For example, Acumatica’s Jim Desler, in his recap of Summit 2025, notes that our annual cloud ERP event drew over 3,500 attendees, making it our largest Summit yet. He also writes that Acumatica “welcomed thousands of new customers, saw record renewal rates, and witnessed unprecedented levels of transactions and engagement

But that wasn’t all.

Our standard-setting, incredibly popular Hackathon boasted the highest participation on record. And we logged our very first tie in Hackathon’s history.

Let Creativity Roll

Hackathon kicks off Summit every year, and it’s where participants work in teams to develop new Acumatica xRP platform applications. As  noted in my  pre-Summit Hackathon post, this year’s Hackathon was all about getting every Acumatica Community member interested in participating—regardless of their business role—and excited about unleashing their creativity.

For Acumatica Hackathon 2025, we decided not to focus on a specific theme and chose to instead open the innovative floodgates. Participants were tasked with bringing far-reaching, out-of-the-box ideas that would produce unique applications—and they didn’t disappoint.

The 14 teams made up of customers, implementation partners, marketing experts, product managers, developers, system engineers, work process experts, and more developed exclusive applications that are user friendly and promote tremendous company growth and prosperity. The depth and breadth of ideas and concepts were mind blowing.

In fact, every application developed during Hackathon was worthy of praise but only a few could nab the top spots. However and as previously mentioned, we did log our first tie in Hackathon history for third place!

Our panel of judges rated each application on their creativity, completeness, technical difficulty, usefulness, and presentation quality, awarding them with a cash prize and the honor of having their names inscribed on the highly coveted Acumatica Developer Network Hackathon Cup, preserving this achievement for posterity.

In ascending order, here are the top Hackathon teams:

First Place: ATS (Team #4)

Second Place: Ai InveNation (Team #2)

Third Place: AcuUp! (Team #8) and Acumatica Aces (Team #11)

Community Spirit Reigns

To truly appreciate the fun, excitement and pressure of Hackathon, you have to experience it yourself. That’s why we heartily encourage all Summit attendees to sign up for Hackathon to see what it’s like.

According to Heath Hilton, Systems Project Team Lead at Envelop Group and first time Hackathon participant, he’s glad he did, citing diversity of thought as one of Hackathon’s many benefits.

“There are so many people in the room that can bring so many different perspectives. I’m hoping to bring back some ideas on how to make our business better and some capabilities that we could potentially implement or maybe just totally steal,” he says. “I think it’s hard to see outside of your own bubble sometimes and having it be a situation where [you can] try and push back on some ideas, it’s good to hear different perspectives.”

Rob Wire, Sr. Vice President of IT, STS Aviation Group, and third-time Hackathon attendee, agrees. “Hackathon is a great way to meet new folks, learn different ideas across different industries. Our industry is specifically aviation maintenance and it’s really nice to meet folks that are in construction or distribution and learn how they use the system differently than we do and all the capabilities and opportunities that can arise from different ways of utilizing the system.”

Rob says this year, he brought members of his technology team, including a software development group and his Acumatica project director. “We’re really just looking to expand everyone’s knowledge and contribution towards customizations and enhancements to our product. We’re doing more in-house than we have in the past, so we’re empowering our team to take on new projects.”

But Rob also points out that it’s not all work and no play. “[Hackathon] is fun and it’s rewarding. It’s a great learning experience. It’s a great networking experience.”

For Ruchika Sharma, her second Hackathon experience helps with her daily role as Technical Account Manager at Acumatica. “Apart from networking, I personally feel I learn a lot of things which I can apply in my day-to-day work. For example, I learned some great  things from my team members about coding and I’m definitely looking forward to applying those in my work.”

And first-time participant Laura Carpenter, Consultant, NextStep Technology Advisors, says Hackathon is the place to be if you want to push yourself and to discover more about Acumatica’s capabilities.

“It challenges you to expand your horizons and to do new things that you might not be comfortable with as well as to learn about parts of the system that you didn’t know before.”

Just Wait Until Next Year

Acumatica Hackathon just keeps getting better. That’s why we’re already inviting new and veteran Hackathon participants to join us next year at our new Summit location in Seattle, Washington. And if you’ve never done it before, you won’t know how much socializing, networking, and learning you’ll enjoy until you try it.

Our Hackathon participants all deserve congratulations for a job well done. While representing a wide range of roles within the business world, they displayed a level of camaraderie and teamwork that was a sight to behold. In fact, it embodied who we are as a Community and was an example of our Rallying Cry—Building the Future of Business, Together—in real life.

As CEO John Case wrote in his review of 2024, “This Rallying Cry acknowledges that our vibrant Community is our source of strength, our differentiator in the market, and the reason that, in 2024, we saw the continued expansion of our partner ecosystem, an increase of our customer base, and the ongoing growth of the company.”

Thanks to our Community as well as our Summit and Hackathon attendees, we anticipate 2025 to be another year of stellar growth and continued success. Let us know if you have any questions about the Hackathon or about Acumatica’s comprehensive cloud ERP software.
